Ladang Kehidupan…. #1

In the morning the air still feels very cool. The sun just came out on the western horizon. I saw the clock on the wall that still showed at 6 am. Mountain air feels so fresh. Today I woke up earlier than my friend. Aria, the young man who loves the mobile legend, I saw that I was still fast asleep. Today is entering the seventh day of me and my friends in this village.

“ughhh … cold,” I said, breathing fresh air.

The air here is really cold. This morning I can breathe fresh air that hasn’t been affected by pollution. I saw the streets that were still covered with mist covered my view. On this still bright morning the sounds of dogs from neighboring homes accompanied my morning.

This place is really very different from my hometown. The Community Service Lecture (KPM) has brought me and my twelve friends to this village. Community Service Lecture is one part of my course in this 7th semester. I and they will stay for 2 months here.

After 6 days of being carried out with various activities, on this seventh day we were invited by Mr. Reje to pick coffee in his garden. Pak Reje is the name for the village head in this region. According to what I heard from the story of the community he had a very large coffee garden. Yes, me and my friends for a week often sit with some residents here. We talked a lot about the life of the village community.

“Oh, Mr. Reje … he also has. His coffee garden is even the day after tomorrow from our coffee garden,” Maryam’s mother said when sitting with us at the village hall.

The majority of the villagers located in the Gayo mountainous area work as coffee farmers and crops. I see that almost no land in this village is empty except for the sports field. All land owned by residents is full of coffee plants.

Even the yard of the house was made as a land for planting coffee seeds. As I recall when we first went to this village, along the roadside was filled with plantations.

Coffee trees and crops are the main types of plants that are planted in the garden. The majority of the population here meets their living needs from garden produce. There are many varieties of crops that are cultivated, including tomatoes, cabbage, mustard greens, red onions, turmeric, potatoes, and there are also some fruit crops such as oranges and avocados.

The sun on the eastern horizon seems to start to glow at 7 o’clock in the morning. I almost forgot that today we had to go with Mr. Reje to his garden.

“Woy … Wake up …” I shouted, waking Aria while pulling the blanket.

“What time is it?” he asked me.

“It’s very early, hurry and we have to meet Mr. Reje immediately!” invite me.

He looks still very sleepy, I guess it’s due to a game that made him sleep late.

“Look at the girls! Have they woken up,” he told me.

The game’s crazy Aria is my group leader. He is very fond of playing the Mobile Legend game. Almost every time in my spare time I always hear “alay …” “double kill” from the cellphone.

I rushed out of the house to the village office. Yes, my female friends were placed in the village office. While Aria and I stayed at the Secretary’s house. The village office is located not far from where we live. Approximately two hundred meters away. I think it might not be that far.

I knocked on the door, “Assalamu’alaikum … Pak Reje is from waiting … Woy … Open the door!”

Behind the window curtains was the fat guy who was watching me outside.

“Patience … we are ready from that” said Mona the fat woman while opening the door.

From outside I smelled a very thick perfume. It seems like the women have partyed with perfume. The room was really very thick with the smell of various perfumes. That’s natural because they use perfume with different types of brands.

“Don’t forget to use your ID Card” I remind them to wear identification. ID cards are one of the identities that we are students who are doing college work in this village. It becomes very important and one of the things that should not be forgotten. This will indicate a discipline and principle of our group.

Shortly afterwards, Mr. Reje did not go with his vehicle to us who had gathered at the Bang Lem kiosk.

“Coba lihat anak cewek !

Aku bergegas keluar rumah menuju kantor desa.

Aku mengetuk pintu, “Assalamu’alaikum….. Pak Reje suda dari dari menunggu…. Woy… Buka pintunya!”.
